Steel Inserts

Multi-section Optical Insert
A 24-section Fresnel lens insert with height of adjacent sub-inserts conforming to an aspherical profile, for IR sensor application.
The multi-section optical inserts are designed and manufactured as sub-inserts assembled together in a housing.
The semi-finished sub-inserts (less optical profile), have been finely fitted together into the housing to ensure correlation with each another.
The optical profile on each of these sub-inserts are been diamond cut individually subsequently.
Upon completion of the sub-inserts, they are assembled into the housing and tuned to the appropriate height corresponding with the adjacent ones.

Diamond Scribed Profiles (Multi-facet Insert, Ascylindrical Fresnel Insert & Lens Array Prototype)
The diamond scribing methodology developed by DOT, coupled with our proprietary diamond-direct-cut steel process, is used to generate complex optical profiles on optical inserts. The diamond scribing, with its "straight line cutting" tool-path strategy, enables the generation of surface with jagged-free finish at transition zone of a complex profile, such as those of multi-facet and lens array. Thereby eliminating the occurrence of stray light which might cause undesirable effect in the lens system.

Hardened Steel Knife-edge Insert
Fresnel profile insert with its crests cut to knife edges, a feature made possible by proprietary diamond direct cut steel process, with excellent mold-life.

Multiple Lens Array Insert
A special mould insert made of steel that is used to make a flat piece of plastic with multiple lenses in it.

Free-Form Insert made of Hardened Steel
A free-form profile insert produced to sub-micron form accuracy with the simultaneous manipulation of 3 axes of the diamond turning machine, with tool-path generated by DOT-FSC CAM, our propriety application software.

Ruled Insert with minima wave-form
A ruled-insert, made of hardened steel, optimizing the imaging characteristic of the molded optical surface by minimizing color separation, thereby improving the vitality of the image displayed. Made by diamond turning a pair of inserts, one with concave and the other convex profile (of mirror image) and subsequently matched together by these surfaces and honed with each other by rotating them at differential speed. Such an action with appropriate speed and lubricating setting, enables the reduction of the waviness to a minimum on the diamond cut surfaces.
